The Artesia, Mississippi, community is mourning the passing of Matt Moore, who died on August 16, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi. He was 51 years old.

Matt’s passing has left his family, friends and loved ones with a deep sense of loss. While his life has come to an end, the memories he created through his years, his love for his family, his talents and the simple moments he enjoyed will continue to be cherished by those who knew him.

Remembering Matthew David Moore

Matthew David Moore was born on July 29, 1975, in Columbus, Mississippi, to David Owen Moore and the late Sharon Frances Closs.

Matt attended New Hope High School, where he enjoyed playing baseball. His early years were filled with experiences and interests that remained meaningful throughout his life. He also developed practical skills at a young age, beginning his working life as a carpenter with Caldwell Construction.

Through that work, Matt learned many talents that would remain useful throughout his adult life. His ability to work with his hands and the skills he gained along the way became part of the story of his life.

A Life Filled With Family and Memories

Some of Matt’s fondest memories came from his childhood and the time he spent with his siblings. Growing up, he enjoyed listening to music together with his family on the record player, creating simple moments that became lasting memories.

He also developed a lifelong love for the beach, a passion that began when he was a young child. The beach remained a special place for Matt, and he had hoped to return there one more time before his passing.

Above all, Matt cherished his children and grandchildren. Although circumstances meant he loved them from afar, his family remained an important part of his life and legacy.

Matt leaves behind a loving family who will continue to carry his memory forward.

He is survived by his father, David Moore and Patsy of Daphne, Alabama; his daughters, Kelsee Moore of Sturgis, Mississippi; Brooklyn Moore of Columbus, Mississippi; and Mackenzey Moore Bowen and her husband, Brade, of Caledonia, Mississippi; and his sons, Dyllan Moore of Brandon, Mississippi, and Conner Moore of Hatley, Mississippi.

He is also survived by his sisters, Kristi Woolbright of Artesia, Mississippi, and Terri Moore of Vass, North Carolina, along with eight grandchildren: Emerie Grace Moore, Ava Kate Moore, Rylan Howard, Rivers Howard, Rose Howard, Colsen Bowen, Carter Scarbrough and Wynn Scarbrough.

For this family, Matt’s passing represents the loss of a father, grandfather, son and brother whose memory will remain part of their lives.

Graveside Service and Memorials

A graveside service for Matt Moore is planned for Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Moore Cemetery near Macon, Mississippi.

Those wishing to honor Matt’s memory may make memorial contributions to Moore Cemetery c/o Bobby Cade, 1399 Beersheba Road, Columbus, MS 39702.
